Let me start with the question I ask every dentist who's ever been let down by a marketing agency: does yours know the difference between an FP1 and an FP3? Or between cosmetic and restorative treatment? Because if the people running your ads can't tell a fixed hybrid from a single crown, they're not marketing your practice. They're guessing with your budget. That's exactly why I built IS Media Dentistry. We work in one industry, dentistry, and every single person on my team has real, hands-on dental experience. So we already speak your language before you've explained a thing. But I didn't want to spend this whole article telling you who we are. I'd rather give you something you can actually use. So here are three things you can start doing today to stand out, and they're the things most practices simply don't think about. 1. Show off the names behind your work As a clinician, tag the people you work with. Your suppliers, your lab, the big brands whose technology sits in your surgery. I promise you patients care about this far more than most dentists realise. Think about it from the chair. When someone is about to spend thousands on implants or a full arch, one of the quiet questions running through their mind is: where is this actually being made? Is my restoration coming from a lab down the road, or is it being shipped in from abroad? Patients want to know. And if your lab is in the UK, that is a genuine selling point. It's another reason for them to have their treatment done here, with you, rather than flying off to save a few pounds on work they can't verify. So show it. Tag your lab. Tag the brands you trust. Let patients see the respected names standing behind their treatment. It builds a level of confidence that a "book now" post never will, and it costs you nothing but the habit of doing it. It also quietly reassures them that you have nothing to hide, which for a nervous patient weighing up a big decision is worth more than any discount you could offer. 2. Show up, and put real faces to your practice This is the point everyone talks about and almost nobody truly understands. Yes, you need to show up online. But showing up doesn't just mean posting. It means your practice having a face, and not only yours. Your associates, your hygienists, your whole team. Here's the thing I have to gently push people on: some team members don't want to show their face online. They're nervous, or worried about what other people might think. I understand that completely. But we have to remember one simple truth. People buy from people. A patient scrolling at home is looking for someone they can trust, not a logo. Picture your dental hygienist with an active, well-kept page and a ready-to-share portfolio of her work. When a patient is on the fence, she has something real to hand them, plus that extra layer of trust that comes from simply being visible and human. She will sell that treatment far better than someone hiding behind the practice name. The same is true for your big-value treatments. Take full arches. Imagine two clinics, both with ten years of experience. One has a page a patient can scroll through for hours from the comfort of their sofa, seeing case after case of that clinician's actual work. The other has ten before-and-after photos buried on a website. Who would you choose? The experience might be identical, but the trust is not. Visibility is what closes the gap. 3. Don't panic, and please don't be a robot Here's where I want to put a lot of minds at ease. So many people getting into social media within dentistry freeze up because they think they have to be extremely professional, buttoned-up, almost monotone. Every post polished to within an inch of its life, every word clinical. I promise you that isn't what wins patients over. Smiling on camera, showing your personality, cracking a small joke, letting people see the humanity of your clinic, none of that is going to have the GDC board knocking on your door. What it does do is make you approachable. It makes a nervous patient feel like they're choosing a person, not booking a procedure. The practices that grow the fastest are almost always the ones that let their real character show. People remember how you made them feel long before they remember your equipment list. Why any of this matters I'll leave you with one quick example of what happens when this is done properly. We ran a paid campaign for Abbey Dental Supplies to fill their training courses. On a modest £600 monthly ad spend, we sold out three full course days, 45 seats, generating £13,500. That's a 22.5× return, or £22.50 back for every £1 invested. That didn't come from a bigger budget. It came from knowing exactly who to reach and how to speak to them, because we live and breathe this industry. That's the whole idea behind IS Media Dentistry. We're a full-service team covering websites, ads, social, video, unlimited design, lead generation, CRM and reporting, all under one roof, and all pointed at the same goal: booked appointments, not just clicks. We're proud to work with some of the most respected names in the field, from 3Shape to Matisse Optishade to the technicians shaping modern dentistry. But you don't need us to start. Tag the names behind your work. Get real faces in front of your patients. And relax enough to let your personality show. Do those three things and you'll already be standing out from the vast majority of practices in this country. If you'd ever like to talk it through, my door is genuinely always open.
