Cross Infection Control Policy | Bremadent Dental Laboratory in London
This cross infection control policy for Bremadent Dental Laboratory is to be implemented effective immediately. A risk assessment of the Dental Laboratory has been done and various new protocols are to be implemented in order to minimize of risk of spreading infection.

CROSS INFECTION CONTROL – EXTERNAL
- Administration, incoming, outgoing and production work areas are kept separate from each within the laboratory to prevent cross contamination
- The Dental Practice is responsible for the disinfection and sterilization of appliances before placing them into the patients mouth
- The laboratory premises, all surface areas and high traffic areas are disinfected regularly throughout the week at the of the day with a chemical fogger and an antiviral solution
- Disposal of any packaging, bags or tissues in contact with the impression are discarded in our hazardous waste bin
- All dental plasters, PPE, materials are classed as hazardous waste and are treated as such and disposed of in our hazardous waste bin which is emptied daily and collected weekly
- Plaster traps are emptied daily and is strictly for production work. Polishing lathes with pumice are changed with added disinfectant and disposed daily. Air compressors are drained weekly and dust extractor units are emptied weekly
- Work bench areas are to be kept uncluttered and clean for disinfecting. All work areas and equipment / machinery used are cleaned at the end of each day in preparation for disinfecting
- All tools are stored in the drawers on the bench. All materials are stored in designated cupboards, cabinets or shelving provided. All necessary administrations files are stored and organized for ease of access and cupboards
- Denture repairs from the public are handled with PPE and are disinfected before work is commenced. Shade taking and consultations are handled with PPE
- In the event of work related injury the incident should be recorded in the accident work book and discussed with Kashif Qureshi to asses the situation
- Any accidental spillages involving hazardous substances should be reported to Kashif Qureshi. Any persons developing reactions or allergies to any substance, chemicals or PPE must be reported to Kashif Qureshi
- All employees receive an induction into PPE and cross infection control policy as part of training and returning back to work. Food, drink or smoking is strictly prohibited in production work areas
- All impressions are checked upon receipt to ensure they have been disinfected by the dental practices and cleaned before being sent to the laboratory. Impressions with blood still present in the impression are returned back to the dental practice
- Following acceptance, impressions are disinfected by the Immersion method for 10 minutes before casting the impressions. Dental Technicians handling the impressions use PPE whilst doing so
- All finished cases leaving the laboratory are cleaned with detergents and ultra sonics but not sterilized
- All crown & bridge and implants cases are steam cleaned but not sterilized
- All internal works trays / delivery baskets are steam cleaned after packing the finish cases
- The laboratory provides the appropriate PPE which includes protective clothing, face masks, eye wear (visors) and gloves are worn by dental technicians during all production procedures. Protective clothing worn in the laboratory must not be worn outside the laboratory premises
- Administration, drivers and cleaning staff are to wear PPE inside the laboratory premises. Delivery drivers are to wear face masks and gloves when collecting and delivering from dental practices with minimum contact with practice staff or patients
- Hand washing is to be done a regular basis. The laboratory provides hand sanitizer stations on all entrances of the premises X3 and hand washing facilities in each bathroom X2
- A 2 meters (6 FT) distancing is to be implemented throughout the premises in each department between work stations and staff within the premises with staggered work shifts of all staff entering and leaving the premises
- The laboratory has a cleaning company to preform a general clean X3 a week this also includes disinfection of the laboratory premises, all surface areas and high traffic areas are disinfected regularly throughout the week at the of the day with a chemical fogger and an antiviral solution. A deep clean is preformed once a month
